What are your plans for 2021?
Welcome to Ideothetic Flow! This is my passion project where I share my reflections on being a better person and building a kinder world.

Happy new year!
It was hard to do any writing this week. I was particularly drained out on the parenting front. Joy suddenly made a developmental leap (terrible twos maybe?) and had multiple huge meltdowns with me. My parenting morale was at an all time low, and its taken most of my energy just to keep calm. Besides that, I was making use of the holiday season by spending time with my friends and family, getting in my last training sessions of the year, and binge gaming 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.
What are your plans for 2021?
The start of a new year always feels like a chance to reset, to look forward with hope, make up for our errors, and think about how to make this a good year. By now, in the course of the festive season, most of us would have spent some time looking back and thinking about 2020. You likely have some ideas of what you want to do differently in 2021, or have something you would like to start. Perhaps you have even started working on them as the year winds down.
What are your new year resolutions? What goals do you want to achieve? Are there ideas in your mind that are itching for you to try them? What do you plan to be doing in 2021?
I invite you to reply this email and share these with me. I’d love to know more about what everyone is striving towards this year.
My 2021 goals
For myself, besides working on my usual hobbies, I have two things I want to try out this year.
First, to organise my personal projects into small 6 week cycles, where I focus on a single project for those 6 weeks and try to produce a tangible product. This is inspired by Basecamp’s project management philosophy. For the first cycle which started last week, I am learning to build a website and hosting it on Github Pages.
Second, to try and earn some money freelancing. I want to start diversifying income sources and reduce reliance on any single one. I doubt I will be able to earn much, and definitely not replace what I earn as an in-house lawyer. However, I suspect I am not well-suited to succeeding in the usual corporate career ladder, and should find ways to supplement that path.
If you have ideas on how I can do these better, please do let me know!
Wishing you a great 2021!
James
